The following items are not permitted for school attire:

1. Clothing that indicates an affiliation with a gang or intimidating group
2. Caps, hats, bandannas, hairnets or visors
3. Oversized pants that fall below the waist
4. Baggy shorts with knee socks
5. Belts with lettering or longer than waist appropriate
6. Halter tops, tank tops, bare midriffs, see-through or fish net clothing
7. Clothing that does not conceal undergarments at all times
8. Skirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh
9. Clothing that suggests obscene pictures, wording, and/or drugs, alcohol, smoking, sex or violence
10. Frayed or unfinished hems
11. Thongs, thong-like sandals, steel-toed shoes or sandals without a back strap

Daily homework assignments are one of the best means of school-to-home communication and parents should insist on seeing classroom work every day. Homework time varies from subject to subject and averages approximately one to one-and-a-half hours per night minimum. The Slauson faculty believes that homework enhances student achievement, allows parents to participate in their student's education, and establishes lifelong patterns of learning at home. If your child says that it was completed at school, please ask to see the work for your approval. Completed homework assignments are a means of success in school and future careers.

Grade Point Average (GPA) Calculation

GPA is computed using the above quality points.  Beginning with grade 7, all subjects, whether passes or failed, are included in the computation. Grades are recorded on the transcript and GPA is computed in January and June.

The academic program is organized into 6 periods per day.  Students enroll into math, English, history, science, physical education, SSR (reading), homeroom and at least 1 elective of their choosing.  The elective selection includes: Spanish, STEM, AVID, Choir, Band, Art, Media, Math Intervention, Language Arts Support, Reading Essentials,  ELD Language Support, Yearbook, Leadership, Mariachi and a District Orchestra.  Each core class and elective is 50 minutes and homeroom/SSR is 33 minutes.

After school programs include: Cheer, Dance, Sports, Think Together and Beyond the Bell Tutoring.

Slauson Middle School will not tolerate sexual harassment, bullying or other hate motivated behaviors.  Students should report concerns to the Administration or their Counselor

Attendance is a significant factor in school success. If a student is going to be absent, the parents must contact the school office at 815-7300 by 8 a.m. If the school does not receive a call, then staff will call the home to verify the absence. When returning to school after an absence, students must bring a written excuse, signed by parents, to the first-period teacher.

If a student needs to leave school during the day for a doctor's appointment, please send a note in the morning. When you come to the office to sign out your student, you must present your I.D. All students must be signed up at the office. We will not release a student to anyone except the parent or person(s) listed on the emergency card.
